a "poem"

the snow
is so pretty
falling
from the sky

and even prettier
melting
on the green grass

when did this transition happen?

I am old. I went to the mall. Got totally overwhelmed by all the lights, the noise and the sheer consumerism. I actually got lost. Twice. I did find some of the most awesome mascara ever though. So I don't need to go back anytime soon.

Vote NO on 8!

"Daddy! Come look! See the house I designed? The family is in the living room. Here is the mother, and this girl is her wife. Here are their three kids!"

If you live in California, please vote NO on Proposition 8. There's enough hate in this world. Let's help there be more love.

bits 'n pieces

Ben got his 7th tooth 2 days ago.

Kaia's still working on her joke telling skills:
Kaia: What do you have if you have 3 pairs of shoes?
Me: umm...what?
Kaia: EIGHT SHOES!!! HA HA HA!!! Get it?!!?
Me: ummm...honestly, no...
Kaia: Because, you have 3 pairs, so you have 6 shoes, but then someone comes and secretly puts two more shoes there! So you have eight shoes now! Get it?!!?

Ben slept last night from 7:30pm to 5:10am!! From what I can remember, this is the FIRST TIME EVER!!!! WHOO HOOO!!!! (do it again tonight Ben!)

We ordered the kids' costumes today. Yoda for Ben, and Luke Skywalker for Kaia. Spent more than I really should have for costumes, but I really don't have the energy to make a Luke Skywalker costume.

I have worked out 3 days a week for the last 2 weeks. Not a long time, I know, but a very good start!

Rain Rain GO AWAY

okay, even for the Pacific Northwest, this is RIDICULOUS!!!! Where the hell is the SUN!?!?

We had an unusually cold winter (snow in MAY), now we are having a cold and gray spring. Please, please, make up for it by a warm, dry summer. I am begging.

In other news, I am sick and Ben is still waking up several times a night. I am making a dr. appt. for this afternoon.

In a later post, I will talk about the things I've been planning for this summer--my first summer as a stay at home mom to two kids. Most of it's free, too!

Kabookaboom

Noun: "Hello my little kabookaboom!"

Verb: "Oops! Did you kabookaboom?"

Exclamation: "Kabookaboom!" - while tickling, etc.

No idea where this word came from, but both Mike and I have used it since Ben's birth. It's Ben's nickname, a word to distract him from being upset or to get his attention, a synonym for falling, bonking his head, and in place of peekaboo.

but I don't WANT to go back.

Want to know what sleep deprivation gets you?

Paper towels when you were wanting toilet paper and already have plenty of paper towels.

Stain remover when you were wanting laundry detergent and already have stain remover.

grr....

Sunday Family Outing

Well, I was going to upload pictures of our haircuts, but blogger decided that wasn't going to happen at the moment...I'll try again later!

Mike just got his usual "very short all over, longer on top than on the sides and back" cut. I have been dithering about getting my hair cut because of how long I've been growing it out, but I really never wear it down, and it annoys me more than anything else, so I got it cut in sort of an A line...as it grows and I get it trimmed it'll be more of an A line (longer in front than in back). Kaia originally wanted her hair short all over, but then changed her mind and wanted hers like mine. Her hair is much more suited to an A line and looks ADORABLE.

I wasn't impressed with our stylists. I won't go into details, because it's not important, we'll just go somewhere else next time, and I am mostly happy with the results.

I am happy I decided to just cut mine, and Mike, though skeptical at first, seems to like my hair this way too. Kaia's haircut will hopefully cut down on the morning snarl fight!

I will try later to post pictures again!

by the way...

I spent the afternoon at Natasha's yesterday. I met her neighbor, and Kaia had a great time with kids from both households. I had a wonderful time hanging out with two really cool women. I really am hoping to move to that area in a year or so......hear that Universe? Make it so! (please?)

Taking an Early Weekend

randomly deciding to take the day off today. Kaia was a bit cranky yesterday, and I don't feel much like getting ready and rushing out the door, so we aren't going to! After the morning fog clears up I'm going to see what the weather will allow us to do....possibly go to the park? Not sure what there is to do if it's cloudy and cold....I do need to get Tania's scrapbook stuff, but that's not very fun for Kaia. Maybe go out for pastries and hot drinks if it's cold.

also, of course, the house needs cleaning. but that can wait.

Was handed lemons....so making....KAHLUA WHIPPED CREAM!

I just juiced all the lemons my mom gave me. I had a LOT, even though she kept a bunch, and gave some to my sister too. They are from my Aunt Carol--her sister has a lemon tree in California. We made lemonade the other day, and Kaia planted a few seeds, despite my pessimistic warnings of our climate and its not-lemon-friendly amount of rain. Tonight I got enough juice for 2 large jars, which I'm freezing. I also made lemon ice cream, though I am not sure it will work out.

THEN. I made Kahlua whipped cream! wonderful stuff people. wonderful stuff. and not related to lemons at all. Oh! but I am eating it with strawberries, which are a citrus fruit, and so are lemons! So there!

I am shocked and amazed

I have now discovered that not only do I like hazelnuts, I also enjoy almonds. Does this mean I'm a grownup now? Please say it isn't so!

A Rare and Unwanted Occurance

OH MY GOD. We have snow in April. I am just shocked. We don't always get snow in December here in the Pacific Northwest, much less at the end of April. I am personally offended. I just moved back after three years in snow country.
I was looking forward to NO SNOW. I think it followed me.

Saturday, April 19, 2008

Do you see this?

DO YOU SEE THIS?!!?! It's snowing!!!! It's the flippin' 19th of APRIL in Seattle! Why the hell does the Universe feel it's necessary to SNOW?!

Next time, I really should be consulted.
'Cause I am definitely on the NO SNOW IN APRIL side of this issue.

Forgot to take a picture while it was still clean...

I've been slowly working on my kitchen, moving things around, getting rid of things I realized I haven't used since way before we moved, putting things on and taking things off the counter. And I think I almost have it how I want it. And this morning, I took one more thing off, and put it aside to sell. Our microwave. I've been using it less and less, and certainly not for cooking real food. Kills vitamins! :-)

But the other day I realized that I've recently only used it for 2 things. Melting chocolate and butter. And both of those things could easily be done on the stove, especially since I have a wonderful little ceramic pot. I talked to Mike, and he said he does only one thing he can't do on the stove, and that's make perfectly round little eggs for egg muffins, and he said he can figure out another way to do that.

So we decided that the microwave took up way too much room for only doing those three things. (Yes, we used it for other things sometimes, but nothing we couldn't use the stove or toaster oven for)

I moved my bread maker and crock pot over there, and freed up a huge amount of counter space! My kitchen is almost perfect...
